The Trane VAL18910 Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) is an essential part of HVAC systems especially in air conditioners and heat pumps. It works by measuring the temperate and pressure of the refrigerant that emanates from the evaporator. Accordingly, the TXV controls the refrigerant flow in order to achieve the desired superheat, thereby providing the necessary cooling and avoiding the circulation of liquid refrigerant through the compressor, which may lead to its failure.
