The Raypak 017954F Flame Sensor Probe Kit is a detection assembly that verifies the presence of an active burner flame within the combustion chamber of a heating appliance. It works through thermal rectification, a process where the probe passes a small electrical current through the burner flame and returns a microampere signal to the control board, confirming ignition. Within HVAC heating systems, this probe sits directly in the burner flame path and feeds a continuous signal to the controller, which shuts off the gas valve if the reading drops below the acceptable threshold, preventing unburned fuel from accumulating in the heat exchanger.
