The Lochinvar & A.O. Smith 100109875 Pilot Tube is a 1/4” diameter x 24” long instrument used to determine the velocity of fluids including air or water. The cutting tool is based on the concept of hydrodynamics known as Bernoulli’s equation which propses that when the velocity of a stream of fluid is high, it has low pressure. The pilot tube has an open end facing in the flow direction and a side hole in the direction perpendicular to the flow. This pressure difference is then combined to determine the fluid velocity of the given fluid. Advantages of using a pilot tube include the following.
