The Carrier KSAHS1601AAA Hard Start Kit is an accessory that assists the residential air conditioner or heat pump at start-up. When the system starts up, the compressor requires a spike of electricity to kick into operation. The hard start kit works as a sort of reserve battery to give the compressor that additional kick it needs to start running and not place too much load on the battery. This can be of particular importance in low-voltage applications, as well as in cases of oversized systems.
