The Carrier HN68GP168 Overload Relay observes the motor current draw and disconnects the circuit when sustained overcurrent conditions exceed the motor’s safe operating threshold, protecting it from heat-related damage. It operates through a thermal or electronic sensing element that responds to prolonged excess current by opening the relay contact, interrupting power before winding insulation or motor bearings sustain irreversible damage. Wired into the motor circuit of air handlers, condensing units, and packaged ducts within HVAC systems, it is mounted directly on or near the contactor within the electrical panel using the designated terminal connections.
