The International Comfort Products 1192353 Thermal Expansion Valve is a refrigerant metering unit that reduces high-pressure liquid entering the evaporator coil to a lower pressure, causing the phase change that allows the coil to absorb heat from the passing airstream. A sensing bulb clamped to the suction line feeds real-time superheat data back to the valve, which continuously adjusts the orifice opening to match the thermal load placed on the coil at any given moment. In HVAC systems, this valve sits on the liquid line ahead of the evaporator in split cooling and heat pump configurations.
