The Bard HVAC 8554-019BX Flame Sensor confirms burner combustion presence by generating a rectified current signal that the control board uses to verify ignition and keep the gas valve open throughout the heating cycle. The 0.114-diameter sensing rod extends into the flame path, where the flame bridges the electrical gap between the rod and burner ground, converting alternating current into a steady direct current signal the control board continuously monitors in HVAC systems. Secured at the burner assembly in gas-fired furnaces and packaged heating units, it connects to the ignition control through the specified wiring lead and mounts using the existing bracket position.
