The Trane ACT0338 is a spring return actuator that is ideal for use in heating ventilation and air conditioning HVAC systems.s. An actuator is defined as a device which changes electrical signal into desired mechanical movement.In this case the Trane uses a spring mechanism anyway as a control mechanism. With an input source’s supply of power, the actuator opens or closes a damper or valve to a certain position. However, the major advantage of a spring return actuator is the fact that it is a fail-safe device. If the power fails it’s a programmed position where the springs will revert, often a damper or a valve position.
