Description
The Daikin-McQuay KEHJ5A160E is a 230-volt, single-phase pan heater intended to avoid freeze-up in drain pans of various HVAC equipment, such as air handling units, packaged units, and chillers. In cold weather operations, it acts as an electric heating pad, keeping water accumulation from freezing. The pan heater produces heat when it is turned on by creating electrical resistance. The surrounding drain pan retains a temperature above freezing, usually at 40°F (4°C), thanks to heat transfer. The pan heater ensures appropriate drainage and guards against water damage to the surrounding regions and equipment by keeping the temperature warm enough to prevent any stored condensate from freezing and perhaps clogging the drain.
